Designers Blueprint

When I first built the site I had things planned for a phase two but I didn’t realize that by the time I was ready for a second phase I would have changed a great deal. It’s always good to keep a list of changes that you want to make, but always write it in pencil.

Here’s a list of the changes I made

New Header

refreshed logo, new easier to submit form and a better focus on social icons.

Simplified site map

Looking at the analytics of the site I realized I was recieving a fraction of the traffic to the subpages so I scrapped em. There is now a main focus on the sites content.

Side Column

With three sections About, categories, and tags its more focused on helping users navigate around the site, with a quick overview of the sites purpose.

Responsive Design

What you’ve never heard of this? Well if you haven’t let me explain, or better yet, let me show you. Do me a solid and resize your browser. You will notice my site, and the blueprint site will both respond to the window size and fit accordingly. It works all the way down to mobile, which is the main reason I wanted to do it.

Mobile is here to stay

Like it or not, if your site doesn’t look good on a smart phone you risk losing a substantial amount of traffic. So taking advantage of CSS3 @mediaquiries I now have a site that looks pretty good on a smartphone. Here’s a screen cap for your viewing pleasure.

Like I said at the beginning and I can’t stress it enough always make a list of to-dos, even if you don’t manage to get them all done it will always keep you on your toes.

Matthew
